Understand tare and display increments
Tare resets the displayed weight after you place an empty bowl on the platform. It helps you read the ingredient weight without subtracting the bowl every time. The bowl still counts towards the physical maximum load. A display that changes in 1g steps does not guarantee laboratory accuracy of one gram. Use the scale on a stable, level surface, follow its instructions and check that the display returns consistently to zero before preparing a recipe.
Turn a portion into a useful costing estimate
If an ingredient costs EGP 100 per kilogram, a 150g portion has an ingredient cost of EGP 15: 100 × 150 ÷ 1,000. This is an example, not a current food price. Repeat the calculation for each ingredient and keep packaging, waste, preparation loss and other operating costs separate. Consistent portions make the estimate more useful; they do not by themselves establish the selling price or profitability of a dish.
Check everyday usability
Look for readable units, easy access to tare, a platform you can clean according to the instructions and readily available batteries. Check whether automatic shut-off gives you enough time for your normal preparation. Do not immerse a scale unless its manufacturer explicitly permits it.
